Texas Hurricane Leaves Millions Without Power

During times of crisis or emergency, Geneverse stands tall with our customers, whether via our solar power products and solutions or our outreach and philanthropic efforts.

Texas has recently suffered extreme winds and heavy rainstorms from Hurricane Beryl, which reared its ugly head shortly after Independence Day weekend on July 8th. Millions of people living in communities in Houston were left without power. Several properties along the seawall in Galveston were also severely damaged by Hurricane Beryl.

Texas Communities Without Power

The Category 1 hurricane hit Texas and moved northward, resulting in residents going days without power. Winds in excess of 65 mph hit Houston then produced wind gusts with hurricane force – in excess of 80 m.p.h. throughout the city.

For residents living in Texas, living without power is hardly unfamiliar. In 2021, Texas suffered a power grid failure and suffered through a major power crisis.

Many Texans decided to address the situation and invest in alternative emergency energy sources. Many Texans purchased Geneverse solar generators to ensure their families, friends, and communities would have the necessary power and electricity, rain or shine.

Heavy Wind and Flooding

Beryl brought on heavy wind and rain with floodwaters filling many Houston drainage bayous, in some cases even overtopping them. Sections of highways and various underpasses filled with water. The NY Times reported that officials rescued 47 people from high water.

Compared to Prior hurricanes in the region, Beryl moved relatively quickly through the city, departing Houston in the afternoon on the same day that it arrived.

Once the storm ran its course and moved on, residents faced heavy outages for days. According to a recent Reuters article, over a million residents were still without power heading into the following weekend.

How Geneverse Can Help During Hurricanes and Natural Disasters

When dealing with outages and natural disasters, a good generator will be the difference between the smoothest experience possible and a time of turbulence. Although gas-powered generators are still tremendously useful, they do have their own limitations.

Unlike their gas-powered predecessors, solar generators can be used indoors and outdoors. Solar generators do not come along with the same toxic emission risks as gas generators.

A recent Washington Post article quotes advice passed down from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “You should never use fossil fuel burning generators inside your home or garage… portable [gas] generators [need] at least 20 feet from any residences, open windows or garages with the exhaust pointed away from homes.”

We’d like to stress that solar generators do not come with this sort of issue. You can use them indoors and outdoors safely and effectively with no toxic fumes to worry about.

Providing Solar Power Solutions to Everyone

Geneverse provides solar power solutions that help our customers power their appliances, electronics, and crucial medical devices. When an emergency strikes, it’s important to have a game plan – your game plan should also include special measures if you or a family member requires medical equipment.

Having a portable generator will help power crucial medical devices for those who need it. For instance, mesothelioma patients will need to be able to power devices like oxygen tanks. Geneverse can help with that.
